While studying the content strands of the CAHSEE in preparation for the exam is vital, learning how to properly manage stress levels can play a significant part in your test performance as well. Effective stress reduction techniques are not only easy to learn, they can also be quite enjoyable.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Always take as many practice tests as possible. While this may not seem like a stress reducing tactic at first glance, studies show that the more familiar a student is with the exam format and layout, the less likely they are to have their anxiety levels increase when presented with the actual test on exam day. Knowing exactly what to expect as far as the appearance of the test goes helps to reduce any last minute surprises which can cause stress levels to spike. Also, the more practice questions you expose yourself to beforehand, the more familiar you can become with the actual types of questions you can expect to see on the exam. Practice questions can essentially give you a road map, detailing exactly which steps you need to take to improve test performance.

Keep Your Spirits Up

Always make sure you keep a positive attitude. While this may seem insignificant, it can actually make a huge difference on your stress levels as well as the effectiveness of your preparation time. While the sheer amount of information covered on the exam may seem overwhelming initially, if you make a plan to take it one section at a time, reducing the amount of material you are exposing yourself to at one time, the information becomes more easily managed. Likewise, when any other aspect of the test runs the risk of brining your spirits down, simply take a step back and find a new way to approach it to make it more manageable. The positive attitude you maintain during the preparation process will carry through to CAHSEE exam day and significantly improve your chances of remaining as stress free as possible.

Exam Information

February 13, 2010

This will be a short post that is just to help people find exam information for whichever type of test that they might be taking. The very best resource that you can use to get information on an exam is the exam-makers website. Most companies that create and administer standardized exams will have lots of information on their websites that you can use to learn as much as you can about what to expect come exam day. Next you can also use the internet. Many people who have already taken the exam may have blogs where they have written about their experiences. Take some time to search for some bloggers out there that might be able to give you some feedback on what their experience was like. This can be very helpful especially if the person you are communicating with took the exam recently. These are just a couple of ways that you can find useful exam information on a variety of different types of standardized exams. Don’t just stop there though! Talk to friends, family members, former and current teachers, and anyone else with an opinion. It can only help you to know more in the long run. Good luck and study hard!

The GMAT should never stand between a student and his or her dreams, let’s make sure that it never does.  Together as a community we will be able to help one another and in doing so we will undoubtedly make the world a much better place for us all.

GRE Prep

January 22, 2010

Hello all, I’ve decided to structure this a little bit differently. I would like to compile all of the resources for one test at a time in one location. So this post will be dedicated to assembling lots of information about the Graduate Record Examination, more commonly known as the GRE. For those who may be unfamiliar with the GRE, it is the test that most graduate schools use to rank applicants. It is used in much the same way as the SAT is used to enter undergraduate programs from high school. So now that you have a decent idea of what the GRE is used for let me know if you come across any great resources that can help students prepare for th GRE.  If you have a personal testimonial I would definitlye appreciate a comment that could be shared with the rest of the world. Remember if you benefited from a program or product then it is very likely that someone else might have the same experience. Share your experiences here so that the next guy or gal can benefit. OK thats all for now, comment away.

Test Prep Resources

January 19, 2010

Since this is an interactive blog I would like to start compiling a list of people’s favorite test preparation resources on the internet. Where do yo go online when you start preparing for a standardized exam? I know there must literally be hundreds of sites who claim to offer the best test preparation material anywhere and I am just trying to sift through the  mountain of sites to find the very best ones to highlight on this blog.  If you know of any good resources for students of all ages please leave a comment on this post and I will try to highlight those resources for others to see and benefit from. It doesn’t matter if it is high school level, college level, or professional exams, as long as it is related to test prep I would love to post the information so that the millions of internet users might have the opportunity to benefit from the experiences of others. OK thats all for today’s post.  Comment away!

If you have made your way to this blog you may be thinking, great another test prep blog.  Why on earth do we need another blog about test preparation? Well I’ll tell you why, because you can never have too many great resources. Yes I said great, not good,  not decent, not adequate but great! That is the goal for Test Prep Central; to be the very best test prep resource anywhere on the entire internet. Lofty goals I know but those guys who stareted that search engine google had the same type of goals and it seems to have worked out OK for them. Now yes I know I am no Sergey Brin but I am a nice person who has a computer and an internet connection. This means that I have the potential to be truly influential in this world and I am going to take my chances and see how it goes. So lets talk a little bit about the types of things that are going to be included on this blog. In the beginning we will focus on preparation resources for standardized tests like the SAT, GRE, ACT, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT,CAHSEE, GHSGT, GED, and many others.  Covering all of these exams in depth should take us the better part of this decade, but once we are done we may extend this to other types of exams like Advanced Placement(AP) tests, college and high school admissions tests, and more. We are just getting started over here so be sure to stop by every so often to check on our progress and see exactly how we are doing. I think you will be very impressed with the level of detail we put into our posts and how accurate the information is. Now I say we because yes I will be collaborating with several friends and colleagues to contribute material for the edification of our readers. It’s a win-win. We help people help themselves and this makes the world a better place. If you have never seen the movie Pay It Forward I would highly recommend that you stop reading, head over to netflix.com and sign up or add it to your rental queue. That is the philosophy that we have here and it is truly a way of living that will make this world a better place. The old saying that it is better to give than to receive is not always true but in this case it couldn’t be more accurate. We will give away as much great information as we can and watch the results trickle out into society and watch humanity change right before our very eyes. OK, ok I know this sounds pie-in-the-skyish but thats OK, here at Test Prep Central we dream big dreams!
